Following a string of other classic Disney cartoons turned live-action film, we see Angelina Jolie playing the titular character of Sleeping Beauty's Maleficent. The film tells the tale of the famed story from the villainous Maleficent's perspective, as we follow the events that caused her to harden her heart, and eventually driving her to curse the young and beautiful Princess Aurora. The film also stars Elle Fanning as Princess Aurora. Maleficent opens in theatres May 30th.
"X-Men: Days of Future Past" spans across two time periods, both with something in common: a war between the X-Men and Mankind. If you were keen enough to stay tuned after the credits of "The Wolverine", you would witness a union of Magneto and Professor X in recruiting Logan to travel back to the past and ask help from the younger version of the X-Men in preventing an impending war that may affect the future. Hugh Jackman returns as the Wolverine, with X-Men alumni Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, Ellen Page, and Shawn Ashmore in the roles that made them famous in the X-Men trilogy. Returning for the second time, taking on the roles of the younger versions of the X-Men are James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult. This stellar cast is led by Bryan Singer, former helmer of the X-Men series and returning for a third time in the director's seat. X-Men: Days of Future Past graces theatres on May 23rd.
"Godzilla", a second reboot attempt by Legendary Pictures, sees the iconic monster wreaking havoc on humanity, while also facing off against creatures bolstered by mankind's scientific arrogance. The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, and Ken Watanabe. Here's hoping this version will prove more fruitful than its 1998 predecessor directed by Roland Emmerich. Godzilla opens in theatres May 16th.
Chris Evans dons the suit for the third time in Marvel's second installment - Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Two years after the alien invasion in New York, Steve Rogers continues living peacefully in Washington, DC, still maintaining life in modern day society. His peaceful life is soon disrupted as SHIELD comes under attack once again, this time bringing an enemy as formidable as Captain America himself. With the help of Natasha Romanoff (played by sexy Scarlett Johansen) and Nick Fury (played by Samuel L. Jackson), they enlist the help of a new recruit: The Falcon (played by Anthony Mackie). Robert Redford guest stars as Anthony Pierce, a bigwig within SHIELD. Captain America: The Winter Soldiers opens in theatres April 4th.
"The Amazing Spiderman 2" sees Andrew Garfield returning as the iconic "rebooted" Spiderman in Marvel's now second installment as a film studio. Peter Parker continues living a double life as both a high school student and as a masked web-slinging crusader, while still maintaining a strong romantic relationship with Gwen Stacy (played by the alluring Emma Stone). This second outing has Peter Parker continuing his research into his father, with the help of Harry Osbourn (played by rising newcomer Dane DeHaan), eventually having to confront a new set of villains: Electro (played by Jamie Foxx), Rhino (played by Paul Giamatti), and The Green Goblin (played by Chris Cooper), all of whom have the same connection: Oscorp Industries. The Amazing Spiderman 2 opens in theatres on May 2nd.
